Seeing Red Again

The air is a bit cooler. The days, shorter, and the reds and yellows are just starting to litter the ground. It promises to be a busy and beautiful fall and we are looking forward to it!

The upper falls on White Oak Canyon.

Aster flowers are one of the last to bloom, sometimes they are still hanging around for the first snow.

After I realized how many adorable sheep pictures I put up, followed by a quirky quasi-poem about mushrooms...
Well I decided to take back my manhood. So the following picture may be disturbing to some viewers. It is a dangerous creature lurking in the woods. Viewer beware!





Yes I know it's a cute, baby, copperhead, but it's still a copperhead.

Mushroom Rainbow

When it rains like it has around here lately, you won't find a whole lot of hikers weathering the storm on the trails of Shenandoah. But if you don't mind having wet toes there are a colorful group of friends who pop up in the fog.

Occasionally a tiny town of them springs out from a log!

There are black ones,



There are weird white ones that look like they ought to be under the sea,



and then there are those that make you think of people you miss dearly.



Sometimes the mushrooms are almost big enough to be an umbrella for the storm.



and then there are those that aren't sure what color to become.

If you don't see the mushrooms, try not to miss the bear.

And as soon as the rocks dry we're climbing out there!
